    Default Hunting donkeys in Aus!

Saw this pic of an aussie hunter on some big bore forum, and had a good laugh as he was very chuffed at downing this poor old donkey with his custom 375hh.Made me appreciate our beautifull country and wildlife even more!!!

That poor old donkey could just as easily had a heart attack when he heard the bolt close. But as you pointed out how lucky you guys are. Here the only animals a big bore shooter here can hope for are Brumbies, camels, donkey or in the northern reaches a scrub bull or water buffalo. We really don't have a wide selection to choose from. But with all that being said those donkey's are tough buggers.

If going by how tough Zebra are and knowing the stubborn/resilient nature of a Donkey, I'd also shoot one with a 375.

I've seen these hunts advertised and think its a great way to get rid of exotic pests. I'd love to go camel huntin in Oz!

From what I can understand its driven in an effort to cull off introduced animals that have gone wild: huntaust.com.au/game/cullhunting.html

CorditeCrazy is correct most donkey shooting is for culling the wild heard. The damage they do to the eco system is huge due to the fact they are a hard hoofed animal.Almost all native animals are soft footed.you get a heard of 20 or 30 donkey's running through an area and it takes years for it to recover. The Donkey meat is not wasted though it get's loaded into freezer trucks and then it's shipped off to make pet food.

I heard the Aussies also hunt Proteas these days. A lot of them are lining up to be taken out.
