Default Snares. Not a good week for dogs and cats.

    Good day all

Not wanting to hijack a thread. It seems this is a bad week for dogs and cats, seeing Spiggs and KK20 news about theirs. Mine is not that sad because we got there in time.

This morning we found that the male Rhodesian Ridgeback, Simba, is nowhere. This has happened before so we sent a worker to go look for him. He came back at 7h00 saying Simba is caught in a snare close to the border next to the river. So my father and I went with a few workers. In thick bush by the river we found the poor dog with one of his front legs in a wire snare. There was blood and scuff marks, and a place where he bit the branch holding the wire.

He was tired and in bad shape, but still strong. He would not let the workers close. So we first cut the wire in the middle so it could not pull tighter. It was a normal snare slide knot, and secondly we could cut if off his leg. It was swollen badly and bleeding. He could walk to the car, and there we put him into the back.

He is doing good now and can put pressure on the leg.

This is the second time Simba is caught in a snare, the last time was around his neck. Before that one of the females lost her one hind leg also from a snare.

Afterwards we went to check for more snares, and found six. Around the area we found dead remains of a porcupine, I think it was definitely also caught.

Think this poacher is going for a swim in the Crocodile river if I find him.

If you catch the poaching ass.Why not put him in the snare then let your dog have some exercise to strengthen his leg by chasing him in circles for a while.

Yep, want ta wait there and catch him, or set a camera trap. Thebdog was in the snare for more than 12 hours.
