    Default Looking for a dehumidifier

I'm in the market for a dehumidifier for my garage. Over the weekend, I discovered that some parts of my reloading kit are now covered in a layer of rust, despite having several Air Scents Moisture Absorbers scattered around (~R22 from Builder's Warehouse. They work, but clearly couldn't cope with the recent rains).

I'd like to avoid repeating this situation ever again, and am currently considering getting the Meaco DD8L Junior (I'd get the non-Junior at R300 more, but they're out of stock). I've also looked at the mini dehumidifiers from 4S Living, but I don't think those would be up to the task.

Any thoughts on the DD8L Junior or suitable alternatives?

I have one of their small Solenco units (E333) in my safe. I am very happy so far. http://www.solencosa.co.za/solenco-dehumidifiers

Silly question....what happens if it gets full and you don't check or empty it?

Doesn't it keep drawing moisture and then create a wet spot?

I'm currently using the ones from 4s living, and unless I'm doing something wrong (which could possibly be the case), they're battling here in Durbz

Good question. I just checked the Meaco DD8L Junior's manual, and it will turn off once the water container is full.

erm, so now you have a full water container inside your safe? Doesn't that make it worse?

Well, some of these dehumidifiers have a runoff hose so you never have to empty it. I'm pretty sure however that if you set a weekly/monthly reminder on your phone/tablet/PC you won't forget.

EDIT: Besides, emptying it often gives you another reason to look at your babies! :)

The water is pulled out of the air that was in the area anyway, so better it be condensed in the container than in vapour form against your metal items.
But yes, this isn't a set-and-forget solution, but better than letting rust do its thing freely.
