Need some advice from the people who know more than me.
We're planning to visit SA next year, and I don't want to be totally defenseless.
I want to spend the next couple of months researching knife designs and finally choose two to three knives (folders) for an EDC setup for the visit. I'll also look at available training in my area.
My first question:
I really like this knife, it looks cool and mean, which would really earn me points if the BG and I were to compare knives. That being said, I'm not sure how practical and efficient the cutting edge will be compared to a normal karambit blade?

Could be effective, but so specialized in use. I'd rather get something that looks (and is) more "general purpose".

I've already made up my mind on the "general purpose" knife I'm going to carry. :)
I am looking for something more specialized. I like the karambit style knife. I think with the proper training it could be a very effective tool for SD.
All I want to know is: will the blade designing of this knife be more or less effective than a normal karambit blade or is it the same?

Re: Need some advice from the people who know more than me.
It might "bite in" a little less on some of the hooking techniques, but probably not hugely different overall. But I'd say getting stuck int with training is far more urgent than little specifics of blade design; so go forth, padawan.

The kind of knife is not as important as your own profiviency with it. "Comparing knives" and "earning points" is a no-go down here. Rather prepare yourself mentally to enter The Bronx, NY, with only a knife during the 80's. And get pepper gel or pepper foam - too many BG's are used to pepper spray and it does not affect them when they are doped.
Most knife fighters in SA use the overhand stabbing method.

It looks like it's going to be a mission to sharpen!
