Three suspects wanted for an attempted hijacking that occurred in Springbok Street in Wierda Park on Monday evening are still at large.
According to police spokesperson Captain Louise Reed, four men attempted to hijack a man (32) in front of his gate at around 20:00 after following him to his home. One of the four suspects was injured and arrested following the incident.
Captain Reed said two of the armed suspects approached the victim in front of his gate, put a gun to his head and forced him to get out of the motor vehicle. However, the suspects could not move the vehicle, as it had battery problems and as a result, it died, Reed explained. One of the suspects (18) was shot by the victim, who retaliated after being shot at. The victim managed to push the suspects’ gun away and pulled out his own gun, shooting one suspect four times.
The other three suspects fired several shots before they fled the scene in a white Toyota Tazz. Cartridges were found on the scene. A resident who posted on the ‘People who live in Centurion’ Facebook page said she noticed a white Toyota Tazz during the day when she was coming home from the shops.
CPF Sector 3 Wierdabrug chairperson, Hannes du Buisson, also commented. “We as the CPF will educate, train and prepare our members and the citizens of Centurion to fight back and protect our lives and properties against crime. We refuse to be sitting ducks and, together with the police, we will drive these criminals out of our suburbs. The criminals must take note that they are not welcome here. As a community, we will act as a united force within the boundaries of the law.”
The injured suspect is recovering in hospital under police guard.

Well done. Unfortunately the scum sounds like he'll recover in hospital. At my (and your) expense mind you.

The problem that I have with an attacker surviving, is that if he gets away, he will be more aggressive if he doesn't learn his lesson. Which results in him next time maybe just shooting instead of hoping to do the hijacking without having to take a life.

This will make him bitter and the next victim (hopefully not of justice takes it's course) might not get a chance like this victim did..

I'd hate to say that is a given outcome, do you have anything to back that up?maybe he was on full psycho already. Maybe he will be persuaded by family that he needs to change for the benefit of his family, maybe his community will shun and stone him, maybe he bleeds out in a veld somewhere (not this guy). Maybe his injuries prevent his participation in more crime or slow him down when so doing.

No point in stressing about possible hypotheticals.

    haha not really, no.

What I had in mind when I was typing this was the incident a fellow GS member had earlier in the year. While in traffic near a robot when a BG suddenly appeared at his window and put a knife to his throat. The guy had a knife in his car door already unsheathed and he proceeded to quickly draw it and stab at the attacker through the semi open window, stabbing the attacker in the hand.

He said that the attacker jumped back with fright and looked back at him with the utmost disgust/hate in his eyes.

That said, I had this in mind when I typed what I did. Yeah it is possible for rehabilitation. But I guess our track record says otherwise. Over crowded prisons. BG's who get caught and released again who end up just where they left off previously etc..

So yeah it is just hypothetically speaking; but really my imagination is not that far off.

Yes the wished outcome is rehabilitation and lesson learn't; but then again we are not living in Utopia..

    I agree with this completely.

I live right around the corner from there, I heard nothing and wasn't even aware that anything happened until reading this though I must add I dislike that place.
