I know of one wheel enhanced dude you do not want to screw with. Even if he doesnt have a gun.

Re: Knife fight out of wheelchair
While as for those not in wheelchairs a gun would generally be a better choice I have a mate in a wheelchair who would give many a go with a knife.
I would assume that technique skill and sneakyness would be of great importance.

Re: Knife fight out of wheelchair
Whats the best selfdefence knife to look at fighting in a sitting position? Maybe a long curved serrated blade like the spyderco civilian? Id rather be shot than having that mean looking blade cutting into me. grn

I once worked a homicide where a guy in a wheelchair got enough of being beat on by his drunken 'buddy' and stabbed him with a 5in Browning fixed blade he always carried with him. I also was involved in a take down of a doper who had a Mac 10 sub machinegun (unregistered of course) complete with silencer concealed under a blanket in the wheelchair...he also had a big folder clipped to the side of the chair. They are by no means helpless unless they choose to be. The other side of that coin is to remember that they can definitely pose a serious threat as well.

Re: Knife fight out of wheelchair
For our other "wheelchair"friend the one that everyone is talking about, we don't approach his training any different than able people. my favorite thing to do to him is to throw him out of his chair and make him squeal like a girl happy0065. When working from a chair I will stay away from any curved type technique specific blades, straight and as long as possible, remember you will have less mobility so you want a blade that is very easy to use from all angles, you want all the good stuff, slashing stabbing etc. so the civilian would not be my first choice, remember your reach from a chair is less, so you want to keep it in very close and tight to the body so that the BG has to step in and reach, and snap out as fast as possible!
