Harrismith and Phuthaditjaba are two different towns 50km apart, so which one was it?

Probably one of the many guest houses on that road between the two.

It's a "spade fork" in the article. I'm sure he meant spading fork.

The younger woman, with her arm broken, were able to escape with her children (one and four years old), after they were forced into their vehicle by the attacker, and driven to his house, presumably to pick up something/ someone else. When he went into the house, the injured woman sped away in the vehicle.

A Malawian national, the caretaker at the guesthouse, was arrested for the murders.

Something has got to give, it can't continue like this.

I really wonder what goes through the minds of these savages. Many of these murders are perpetrated by non South Africans ,so there is no political angle.

Try and get a copy of The Fabric of Terror by Bernardo Texeira. There is sometimes very little motive, if any, for the savagery perpetrated on our beloved continent. If you can't find a copy Frank, you are welcome to borrow mine. We can arrange couriers etc. :)

    Have it.

Nothing could adequately explain it though.

I took something different from it: there isn't an explanation. It just IS. It's like gravity, the rotation of the Earth around its axis, the existence of life...we can't satisfactory explain the phenomenon, yet here it is. Human savagery isn't any different to me. We are a species that throw away animals and babies as if they mean nothing. No act of cruelty is beneath homosapiens. Or maybe I am just a morbid SOB.
