Johannesburg - A couple was robbed, and the woman raped, when their car broke down along the R80 in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria, police said on Thursday.

They were approached by two men, one of whom was armed, and who robbed them of bank cards and cash in block XX on Wednesday night, spokesperson Captain Rheineth Motlana said.

"One of the men asked the boyfriend to accompany him to the ATM to withdraw money, while the other one remained behind with the woman."

When the boyfriend came back from the ATM he found his girlfriend had been raped. Both men fled the scene. A case of robbery and rape was opened.
