Default Looking for a first-time EDC

I've been browsing knives for a while now, but still know next to nothing about them. Given a surprise business trip next week, the priority of getting one for EDC has suddenly become apparent, as I won't be able to take my FA along.

The Spyderco Endura 4 Wave with combination edge has caught my eye, as I like the idea of the Emerson opener. Then again, I'm not really familiar with the market, so I may be missing out on other good options.

My priorities are something that's comfortable to EDC in a pocket, is general purpose (Ie. not solely for SD), not significantly more expensive than the Spyderco, and available between now and Tuesday. ;)

Which other knives should I consider, and are there any stores in the PTA/JHB area I should look at?

We have the best prices on Spyderco. The lekkerest EDC blade is the Emerson Endura Wave... for less than you'd think. Mail admin@tacshac.co.za

CRKT has a good range and are available at many shops. Trappers Trading or Cape Union Mart should stock them. I carry the M21-02G, which is more general use than SD.

I've popped in there before, but as I recall, they mostly seem to carry CRKT. To be fair, I didn't look very hard, but I didn't spot any Spyderco's.

As with all things. ;) Given that the Spyderco is ~R1500, let's say not more than R1750.

I carry my Spyderco tenacious plain edge daily and love it. (I paid R500 - R600 for it a few years back).

Since you are in Pretoria, Safari & Outdoors, New World in Menlyn Centre, Yale Security in Brooklyn Mall, Cape Union Mart and Zimbi Books all stock knives. You might or might not find what you like. An EDC knife is very personal, sometimes something small irritates you and the knife ends in a drawer, and the search goes on. I'm also in Pta., you're welcome to come over and handle and discuss. I have several of different makes etc.(Actually more than several - the same disease as with firearms.) My EDC for more than a decade is a Spyderco Endura. I also have a Spyderco Tenacious which opens faster. My Cold Steel Rajah 3 is a little thicker and heavier but so much faster and easier to open. And so on...
