And if the battery runs dead while carrying it , before you need it? You're a dead duck with a high tec toy.

Reading the post in the link it seems like the power needed is far less than expected, they even talk about incorporating the power source in the mag that can be recharged or that the motion of the slide may be used to recharge the battery.

My biggest problem with the smart gun are that government will inevitably try and disable guns in schools and other gun-free zones remotely. Criminals will within a heartbeat latch onto this and quickly have devices that will disable their intended victims gun at will. They will also have no qualms about reverse engineering stolen guns to operate as normal guns, but you can bet your bottom dollar that it will be illegal for law abiding citizens to do so.

Giving government the option to disable guns also spell danger. They now have the means to effectively disarm the citizens when ever for whatever reason. Maybe my tin hat is a bit tight, but that scares me more than anything else that can go wrong with a smart gun.

if a battery operates this gadget, it can and will eventually fail. The owner cant predicts its end of life date or time.

No thanks on this tec...you may just die because a battery in your gun gave up the ghost just before you HAD TO use it...and could not.

The weakest link of the system is the fact that a battery of sort needs to be charged in the first place.

They'll have to sell this with an indemnity form, that says its a best effort device...and that they take no liability if the battery packs up, and the device is not useful for the purpose it was designed for...a defense weapon.

Indemnity forms are usually not worth much to the dead.

Don't fix what isn't broken. The whole thing is a pathetic joke IMO.

    +1

If your life depends on it - keep it mechanical and simple. Leave the gadgets and gimmicks to people who do sport shooting on ranges.

If a gun like this is sold in the USA, and it fails once to do what it was meant to do - because of a battery or electrical circuit failure. US customers will sue this company into bankruptcy overnight.
