2014 IDPA Africa Champs
I might be jumping the gun a bit here, but the Africa Champs are 3 months away and I just heard that my break in SA coincides with this event (lucky me). So this guy will be attending.
So what's this all about, how does it differ to say a normal league shoot? What's needed to qualify?

Re: 2014 IDPA Africa Champs
It's about 16 stages over 2 days. The stages are more challenging than your typical club shoot.
You need Marksman classification or higher (no Novices), and you need to have done a classification in the last 12 months. I'm not sure if you must have attended a league in recent past - it's possible that may also be a requirement.
Entries are open for international competitors, but not yet for South Africans.
It's going to be hosted by JDPC, and it's going to be awesome!

Re: 2014 IDPA Africa Champs
Its an experience of a lifetime! Not something to miss. They do send the Prerequisites out with the champs news letter. There is a number of shoots to complete before you can do champs IIRC. Something like a classifier, a leage and a club shoot. Might be wrong.
I just hope that we are not randomly squaded this year. Will like to shoot with my crew.

Hopefully MRST sorts out my M&P9L "Dead trigger" out I had at the last champs! 3 months to go and the problem would be year old and still unresolved..Ai S&W!..
So I may have to get my wifes G19 to do this!

Re: 2014 IDPA Africa Champs
Yes, as in sniper school. Last year 11 of the 16 were standards exercises. Stand still and draw and engage target without using your scoped rifle. Not my idea of IDPA.
The 5 stages that were scenario based (IDPA in my books) were great fun though.
The other good news, that full body steel targets that was used as hard cover got PDH to start Steel Challenge down here in False Bay. :-)
