Broke my Lansky Diamond hone.
So yesterday after church saw us processing the last of the tollie that we slaughtered last week wednesday. It was all the bits that we were going to mince and they had a nice icy feel to them.
Just before we got started I though that I'd give my knives a quick sharpen "just in case".
I got my Lansky kit out and used the orange medium diamond hone (actually this is now the only one I use, as all my knives have suitable edges) after 3 of 4 strokes the hone broke at the neck. Never seen this before and the hone isn't even that old. I have two kits and the oldest is 20+ years old. This diamond hone is only about 3 years old.
So has anyone ever re-fitted a hone into an old holder. I'm thinking of pulling apart and old coarse hone (hone is finished) and re-using the case to fit the diamond hone into.
Any tips / advice would be great.

Re: Broke my Lansky Diamond hone.
Hmmmm why don't you take it back to where you bought it?
Might just get it replaced..
As for changing the hones, no clue :/

The hones are glued into the housing, you should be able to replace it.

Yup, Skaaphaas, that I can see.
I recon that working a thin blade around the edges should get me most of the way.
What I was hoping for was a first hand account. If someone has done it, are the hones easily broken and what should I watch for.

If you mean that the stone broke out of the plastic housing, it's happened to me before as well, also with an ultra-fine honing stone. I stuck it back with contact adhesive, but it kept coming loose every now and again.

Nah, Toxxyc, the plastic case that holds the hone broke at the neck, between the screw and the hone.

Re: Broke my Lansky Diamond hone.
Nope, never heard of that before. Mine are all cracked there though, but that's it. No breakage.

Re: Broke my Lansky Diamond hone.
My yellow ultrafine hone is also cracked around the front of where the screw goes in to hold the guide rod.
I have had to glue both the green hone and the yellow one back onto the handle. Just used some of that "powder + superglue" moves, has been working great thusfar...
