Motorists are advised to use alternative routes as the intersection on the corner of of Hendrik Verwoerd and Rooihuiskraal Road has been closed by police after a shootout.

Two attempted highjackers were shot and injured while another managed to flee the scene on Wednesday after a shootout on the corner of Hendrik Verwoerd and Rooihuiskraal Road.

Motorists are advised to use alternative routes as the intersection has been closed by police.

According to Sector 3 Wierdabrug Community Police Forum chairperson, Hannes Du Buisson, the three men tried to hijack a RAM courier vehicle that transported cell phones.

“The three men tried to hijack the vehicle when the car that was escorting the RAM vehicle noticed something suspicious about the suspects. When the RAM’s security vehicle started firing shots at the suspects, two were shot. One sustained injuries to the leg and the other was shot in the arm and leg,” said Du Buisson.

One of the three suspects managed to flee the scene during the shooting. According to paramedics who were called on scene, the injured suspects sustained serious injuries.

“Upon our arrival on scene, one man was found to be in a critical condition and the other man sustained serious injuries. Both men were transported to hospital after receiving treatment on scene,” said Netcare 911 spokesperson Santi Steinmann.

These courier guys are no joke. I saw one of the RTT anti hijack guys. I have never seen so many spare mags in my life! And from our short chat, seems they get good training to.

My regular courier.
Just used them last night on a high value shipment to Gauteng.
Pretty impressive sight to see the armed escort following them.
Used them for ammo shipments - they certainly do use escorts!

A friend of a friend who was in the PTA K9 unit now works as armed response for one of the couriers. They are very well trained and experienced.

If I was a tik infected criminal, I would not mess with these guys, you will meet the devil in no time.
