Default EDC knife for the wife

    Hi guys

Need some advice please on an EDC knife for my wife.

She previously carried a Kershaw Volt II, a folder with a spring loaded assisted opening function. This, she lost in a changing room somewhere.

I then gave her my Buck Vantage, a folder with a hilbilly wave mod. This, she lost in a changing room somewhere.

She struggles with a folder with a belt clip, mostly because of bulk.

She's not a fan of my KaBar TDI.

Since yesterday I have looked at the CRKT Bear Claw, sharp point plain edge.

This is cheap enough to replace should she lose it again, and it also resolves the problem of getting the blade into play in a stressful situation.

So, do I get her to take a look at the bear claw, or is it a waste and should I just buy her another Volt II?

Will it be primarily for SD or more of a utility blade?

Bear claw is cheap enough as you said to let her try it out, if she doesnt like it sell it on here. I sold a bear claw in half a day.

SD purely, not utility at all. She knows she may not even cut a strand of hair with it.

And if she sees a loose screw somewhere she is to wait until I can get to it. For some reason women always think "knife" when they need to tighten something.

Then Bear Claw, as you said, nothing to fiddle with, take out and go to work.

The hole in the knife, IMO, is nice for putting your finger in, it then feels like an extension of the hand and therefore easier for someone with little training to be effective.

You could also try the CRKT spew: http://www.sharpedge.co.za/crkt-s-p-e-w

But i like the hook in the Bear Claw

..Better than there first thought being, I told him to fix it!

Interesting thread, we're also now looking. My wife is adamant she wants a karambit after seeing the damage it does.

I highly advise that you modify the sheath so you (or your wife) can get your finger all the way through the hole. My preferred carry with the bearclaw was tucked into appendix with a static line that loops over a belt loop- put the static line loop through a belt loop, then put the knife/sheath through the static line loop (larks head knot)

The tip is very thin and quite brittle, definitely DO NOT use it as any sort of prying tool. Don't ask how I know this :(

Thanks guys. P2W that's a cool mod, makes lots of sense to do it that way.

Oh also check the edge around the inside of the hole. Mine had quite a sharp edge that took a fair chunk of skin off my knuckle. Missus won't be too happy so give it some TLC with some sandpaper or a dremel
