    Default Next generation blood dog

My next gen4 tracker blood dog. 7 week old Fox Terrier. Still nameless, thinking of maybe calling him Tex. Hope he follows in his predecessors footsteps and has a sidestep that will fool even the wisest of Bushbuck rams :)

Why not just call him "GenFoh"?

Lots of patients! Helps if one has another trained dog. I hunt with clients so inevitably there is at least one wounded animal every 10 days or so plus there are always blood spoor of animals that have run a few hundred meters. I normally just take the dog with and show him the blood and hel follow me till we reach the dead animal. Then you shake the animals head around at the dog while encouraging him.

They soon pick it up if it's in them. Wounded animals one starts off with milder stuff, blesbok, impala etc then chuck them in the deepend.

Once they get a taste for it they hooked. Heeling, sitting etc one teaches the normal way.

Thats how I do it at least.

Oh man I suddenly miss my foxie. She was the best buddy a boy with an airgun on a farm could ask for.

The she had no formal training we worked well together. Even though she's moved on now, I know she had the best life I could give her.

Congrats on the new one, and good luck with the training!
