Default Seal Clubbing - acceptable or not...?

I know this is extremely controversial - especially with the recent incident here in Namibia where photographers were assaulted because they filmed baby seal clubbing.
I want to put this question out there - is it OK to do controlled clubbing of seals for their skin and meat (i presume the meat is used - not sure)

Why clubbing specifically - is it more silent / less distressfull to the rest of the colony (i wonder) than perhaps to rather be more humane and shoot the baby seals?

What is your thoughts on this?

I have no objections to Seals Clubbing, as long as they are not under age. ;D

Seal clubbing, bull strangling. It comes down to the same thing. A while ago there was an article regarding dolphin slaughtering once they were trapped in a bay. wtf is up with people.
You may as well lump granny and toddler rape in there also. These are equally dispicable.

If seal pelts must be harvested, then there should be a better way of going about it. >:(

For me the main question is - how humane is the process? I mean do the seals die immediately or is there a quicker way of doing it? If there is a quicker way it is preferable. However, if clubbing is just as effective (like smacking a fishes head on a rock?) as shooting then it would seem preferable to reduce the stress to the remaining seal population.
Culling is imo a necessary evil - humans have fucked up too much natural habitat, which leaves us with the onerous responsibility of having to carefully control that which does remain.
