that is seriously impressive, what would the lightest bullet be which i could effectively load in my 30-06 in an effort to duplicate the ballistics of those light fast calibres?

The closest you can get to that would be with an SP bullet which is not really a hunting bullet, so you would be restricted to varminting.

If you look at the facts behind that shot, it was taken with a 95gr HV (hunting) bullet with a bc of .390. It runs at about 3500fps because it is pushed from a case that has 66gr case capacity. To duplicate that trajectory and wind drift in a 30 calibre will take a 150gr HV (bc is the same), going at 3500fps. That can only be done with a 30-378 Weatherby with a case capacity of 133gr.

With the case capacity of a 30-06 (68gr water), if you use a 137gr SP bullet with a bc of just over .500 and a speed of around 3200/3300 you will get close though. For hunting, close and far, the 150gr HV will surprise you.

No idea; but I built a 6.5 - 06 for a customer that he uses to head shoot springbuck out to 500m, using 139gr bullets. Some serious medicine that.

    Dave,
Not necessarily, I have a 224 hot rod that is pushing 3000 shots and it is still ok. It has shot HV bullets almost exclusively. The drive bands and coating help a lot to cut down on throat erosion.

Not at all. A couple thousand rounds and the barrel's fine. Just don't hot rod the gun and think it is belt fed.
