pump action shotgun licenced for hunting?

i have heard that the registar doesnt want to issud pump actions for hunting. Is this true? Should i rather get a side by side? Keeping in mind that i want it as a plot defence gun aswel.

Riot guns (short barrels) are not suitable for bird shooting and there should be no problem with licensing a long barrel pump gun for bird shooting and using that same gun for plot defence.
Clearly stipulate the length of the barrel and the choke to distinguish your gun from a riot gun.
