Thanks, yes the pistol is in great condition, but I have had to replace a firing pin (unobtainable).

Mine needs a new recoil spring as this one has a kink in it and causes too much friction during cycling, which sometimes leads to the slide not going fully forward, and it will only function with HV ammo. Does yours cycle with SV ammo?

It cycles, but I do get many stoppages and, therefore, will also be using HV ammo. Bought some Stingers to try.

TBH, I have not shot it much. My Dad bought it about 25 years ago from our neighbors, who most probably got it new years before that, and now it is mine.
Still have the box it came in :)

I recently acquired a series 70 Colt Goverment Mod. in a trade. The gun is missing a lot of bluing but apart from that it seems to be in good condition. The trigger, hammer, safety and beavertail grip safety is not original and the gun is fitted with a full length guide rod. It came with 5 magazines (3x7 shot and one each 8 and 10 round), a box of 230gr cast bullets, a box of PMP 200gr HP factory loads and a die set. I need large pistol primers before I can start reloading but I ran 2 mags of PMP factory ammo through it this morning, without a hiccup.

My three from top to bottom (i) Series 70 Custom build by Claudio Salassa while he was still operating in the old SA (ii) "stock" Ruger SR1911 (iii) 1950's LW Commander with added beavertail, magwell and improved sights.

Here is my Colt Series 70 MKIV - first customized by Paul Liebenberg and then Claudio Salassa (when working at Roy Swayden) - 6" S/S Barsto Barrel, Long Slide with compensator, extended beavertail, combat style hammer, Wichita adjustable rear sights and the usual trigger job, porting and ramp. Had full wrap around Pachmayr Grips, but removed the front finger groove due to the checkering (kept the original Rosewood colt grips). Originally was Armoloy coated, but after second custom makeover - Satin Chromed.

That is a great pistol built by some legendary gunsmiths.
