The whole gun screams project gun. The slide give is away.

Look like it was setup for IPSC in the 1980’s in my opinion. Should be fun to shoot in Classic

It looks like a WW2 military contract Ithaca-made 1911A1 that was customized by Hammerli. Also see the German proof maks to the left of the Hammerli name on both sides.

The Ithaca name on the slide worries me. It could be a WW2-made slide. These were not hardened properly to cut cost and production time. Life expectancy is around 5000 rounds, especially with full-power loads. Some research may indicate post-war production, which would make it much better.

The "77" punched on the trigger guard was most likely applied after the hook was welded on, so that is likely the date of modification. The frames are generally trouble-free, no matter when they were made or by who. I don't see any "United States Property" markings on the frame, but these could have been removed.

Ithaca did not produce any barrels, so the Colt marked barrel is most likely a genuine Colt. It should be good.

Since it was rebuilt by Hammerli, I think we can expect excellent fit and accuracy from the pistol.

Thanks for your input gents. If my research is correct the firearm was manufactured in 1939. I'm still to take it out to the range, but everything feels solid and smooth on the firearm. What would the value of the firearm be roughly?

Assuming the slide to be wartime production, I would say around R5000. With a commercial slide I would add about R4000. A slide replacement will likely cost you a little more than that, if it eventually cracks. You will only really know if you put a few thousand rounds through it, so it is a bit of a gamble.

The serial no. refers to the frame, so the manufacturing date is only definite for that one part. Other parts may or may not be original.
