Please share what you know about the Rem 341 - I have one but was under impression that it was a Rem512 Sport Master . - any thing you know.

I'll get this started. Might I suggest we keep it to pics of our rimfire guns only and feel free to post details with the pics as well. Especially in the case where modifications have been done.

This is a 34 year old Remington 581. I absolutely love this rifle....as you can see by so many pictures. I've added a Timney trigger for a Remington 788 that I modified to fit, bedded the action to 1" into the barrel. I added the cheek rest and extended the stock for my LOP requirement. These rifles come with only one action screw. I added a 2nd action screw and I mofified it in such a way it can go back to original. There are no permanent modifications to the rifle. Even the stock is a used stock and the original, which is almost 100% is stored away safely. I am going to get a better 'scope soon. This is a 4X Bushnell Sportview....the rifle was sold with it 34 years ago as standard equipment.



This is my 78 year old Remington 341, tube fed. Truth be told, I have not fired it yet as I just bought it recently and have been too busy. That will all change tomorrow.

At some point I will get a pic of my Ruger MkII Standard.

That's one heck of a rifle you have there. If you ever want to sell it......

Here is some info. They were only made for 4 years between 1936 and 1940 and about 130,000 were made. They are tube fed and will shoot .22 Short, .22 Long and .22 Long Rifle. The gun has a really neat cartridge lifter system which protects the cartridge as it is fed into the chamber. Barrel's are 24" and are fairly med/heavy contour. These rifles are extremely accurate.
While fairly collectible, the standard model doesn't fetch big prices in the US....around $135-$200 for one in fairly good condition, maybe about $400 for one in mint condition. This is what I have seen anyway. The 341P is another story. This comes with a peep sight. These command bigger resale value and are way more collectible. I would love to find one locally. I see them on eBay time to time but the whole shipping to an FFL etc plus buying a gun I cannot handle etc put's me off.
As far as I know, none of these were D&T'd for scope mounts other than the PT model.....nor do they have dovetails for a rear sight. The peep sight model P's are D&T'd on the side of the receiver for the peep sight unit.

There was also a 341 SB which stands for Smooth Bore and they were meant for use with shotshells.
My advice to you, if the gun is stock, would be to not refinish it, re-blue it, alter it etc etc. Leave it as is. Clean it up and oil it and at the most hand rub the stock with some tung oil mixed with ArmorAll. Birchwood Casey TruOil works nice also but perhaps do not go crazy on the stock. For sure do not sand it down. Unless of course that has been done already and it has lost it's collector value. Enjoy the old gal for what she is, a piece of firearm history...... and go down and smoke some folks with modern .22's who think you have shown up with a clunker. For sure....please post some pics of it. I'm dying to see it. Why'd you think it was a 512 Sportmaster?

Here are the date codes for Remington rifles. Mine has OE written on the Lt side of the receiver at the barrel join. The 2nd letter is E placing it at 1936.

* the years 1943 though 1953 had double letters: ie, MM = 1943

As maybe seen, the year code letters duplicate; some knowledge of when the model was introduced should resolve the actual year of manufacture.

This is what I saw on net as a 512 ?. The stock is something I found and modified to fit a 5 yr old. The original stock is in storage. From that action - what is it.

My Remington Scoremaster 511 has the same bolt design. Seems to be common to the Remington .22LR rifles.

I have a Remington 512 Sports-master exactly the same as this one below. I had a scope put on mine, tube takes 17-18 rounds. Very reliable great little shooter. Inherited mine from my grand father, the greatest man I ever knew will never sell this rifle as its my only memory of him.

Tree man, all the info is written on top of the barrel just in front of the action. It will be probably under the scope objective. If it hasn't been defaced, it's all there. That rifle is a Remington. It should say......Remington Sportmaster or Targetmaster etc along with the model number.........512, 581,341 etc etc and also the caliber and what it shoots eg .22 Short, Long, Long Rifle.

So what is it?

The only thing suspicious to me is the trigger guard looks different.

I test fired it in the shops range and its really smoothe and perfect for me as a leftie.

What's the price of .22 ammo these days?

I did a trigger job on a buddies Marlin M60 which we then tested using Aguila Colibri ammo. That stuff is really quiet and ok up to about 10m.
