SAPS inviting the media to a gun destruction

GFSA will be there dripping poison in the ears of the media; so we'll be treated to a sombre-looking journalist telling us the "this (holds up old bolt action rifle) will never be used for criminal purposes again"!

We need a presence there to counter their stuff. I can't go - business commitments and a funeral tomorrow.

Paul? No doubt Adele will be there waiting for you to admit singing "khumbaya" will disarm all criminals overnight :)

I saw this on Twitter yesterday and a friend made a very good point to the SAPS Twitter account.
Way to set yourselves up for a nice robbery where criminals can steal a crapload of guns in one go guys!!

When will SAPS and goverment realise destroying these firearms will not solve anything? Geeez. Could anyone from a pro-gun association please go there and inform the media that will be there that these firearms could be used to save lives in the hands of law abbiding citizens! And also to keep GFSA in check.

It is all theatre. This is using all weapons, illegal "lost" (WTF?) and handed in.

The SAPS must be forced to list the numbers of illegal, "lost" and handed in FAs. The total number will also be illustrative. Accordingly to gun polity we've millions of guns in circulation. If they're destroying say, 20 000 or so, what difference does it all make?

Interestingly, they say they want to make SA "crime free". They should be asked what human society has ever been "crime free"?

That said, I cringe when I see some of the historic pieces being destroyed - yes, the historic organisation thingy can go get them, but is that even working out properly?
