i would actually go with the type 56 coz the round is more effective overall

Re: AK 101 v type 56
Proud owner of a type 56, just awaiting my card!!! they are widely known as some of the BEST AK's around for quality and accuracy etc. they are also the most produced. and what beats the 7.62x39? what you save on a 18k FN you can spend on around 1400 mil surp rounds!

Re: AK 101 v type 56
I own a Type56 and I really really like it!
That said, most will base their choice in terms of .223 vs 7.62 x 39 availability and pricing as a primary consideration.

Around 5.50 a round of 7.62x39 milsurp, a bit cheaper if you load yourself?

Re: AK 101 v type 56
I can't compare it to a type 56 but it has a nicer trigger than my Saiga. Performance wise there is nothing in it. Quality wise my russian feels better and the stock doesn't seem so hollow but I'm very I happy I bought the 223 101 to have in addition to my Saiga. I'll never get rid of the Saiga though. As far as ammo goes, currently there isn't much in that either, ammo cost won't be your deciding factor. Go with the caliber you prefer, you won't be sorry either way. I have fondled 2 56's and must say, I'd be pretty chuffed to have an under folder model.
