    Default Springbok - Unicorn

I went hunting springbok early this morning. As the wind was howling (it still is) I took my .300 win mag, instead of the 6.5x55. This one was shot at ± 200 m, using a 180 gr Hornady Interbond bullet at 2900 fps.

It had only one horn, but it is one of the largest rams I've ever shot in this area. It will either just make Rowland Ward, or just miss it (after the drying period), I don't really care either way.

It was a good day for flying kites, or ambushing kudu's or baboon.
This makes for challenging plains shooting, well done.

I see you guys are also waiting for the rains.

We had 11 mm on the weekend, rain and hail, we need quite a bit more.

As the Messor keep telling you, shoot it just behind the shoulder :) Not much to eat on a springbok's ribs anyway.

    Nice....

Slightly OT but: Springbokrib oppie kole is VERY nice! Let it lie in an olive oil and balsamic/lemon juice mix for a while, chuck on tannie Ina's seasoning of you choice (lemon and black pepper works nice) and stick it on the braai.

Admittedly, mine came from a large young ewe, a big ram's ribs might be very tough!

Up here in the bushveld we refer to them (one horned) as half jacks.

    Very nice ram TStone!
