Shooting comp gone wrong
Hi guys
This weekend I had entered a Hornady Factory ammo shoot and came in the top 5. I am pretty disappointed though.
I shot 3 shots cutting and then 2 shots about 10mm to the left.
It is DEFINATELY shooter error because that .308 could put all 5 through the same hole if used correctly.
Any advice on what I did wrong??

Re: Shooting comp gone wrong
You answered your question. You didn't use the 308 correctly :P
Poor trigger control perhaps? If you landed in the top 5 and you're pissed, you obviously know what you're doing, so you'll have to go through the steps you did to take the shots.

Re: Shooting comp gone wrong
Definitely my fault, just want to know what type of trigger movements cause a shot to the left? Is it a trigger jerk or a flinch or what?
Hahaha if I didn't like shooting so much I'd probably take your advice ProudPrado

Maroelas when you say slapping? Not a constant pull?

Re: Shooting comp gone wrong
according to the magpul precision rifle dvd, if your thumb is wrapped around the grip, it can cause a sympathetic movement while pulling the trigger. maybe that?
how was it used, stance, grip, etc.

It was off a bipod, sitting at bench.
Thanks Maroelas, I'm not a pistol shooter so the lingo is a bit different.

Jarryd
I dont know your setup (free floating barrel?, zero travel trigger?, rest used? optics? your hold?) so cant really give you good advice. It could be 10 different things (ammo related (inconsistent loads), gun related (movement in pins and screws), optics related (slight movement in optics - internal and external) but I dont know your setup so will not comment on this.
But my two best guesses will be that you a) did not pull the trigger straight back causing a teeny weeny flinch
b) your hold was different between shots changing harmonics of the rifle.
