    I think the FCA refers to only a gunsmith being allowed to deactivate it and issue a certificate declaring it deactivated. Anyone can break the gun but it will not be regarded as deactivated unless it is done by a registered gunsmith

    That law is probably only to cover criminal intent in the case of deliberately intending to hide 'evidence'. ie making it impossible to test if it was used in a specific incident.

    Im sure there is a new thing now if you want to deactivate your firearm it must first be handed in at the SAPS for an IBUS test.
