    Default Collecting your First Firearm

Apologies in advance if there has been a thread on this before, but I will soon be collecting my First FA and I just wanted to know from our gunowners/forumites what is the first thing you did with it as you left the Gunshop?

Did you holster it like putting away your wallet and think nothing of it or did you put in a nuclear safe gun box and sweat yourself all the way home hoping it would discharge itself if you blinked too hard.

Did you immediately go home and admire the awesomeness on your hip in-front of the mirror with a horse riding stance and the proverbial snarl...huh??? huh?? Did ya...punk?!?!

Did it take you a few hours, days or even months to get comfortable with the feeling of cold steel hanging against your hip (or ankle).

Really interested to know seeing as I am going to be going through the experience myself in the next few days.

I bought a Glock. There was no cold steel involved.

I'm getting mine soon. Hopefully. I will holster mine (got the holsters all ready). I will then take it home and spend some time getting to know the ins and outs of it without any ammo involved. And then I will go the range and shoot as much as I can afford to.

I plan on doing fortnightly trips to the range and I plan on EDCing to get comfortable with it. The only thing I have not yet figured out is what I am going to do with it while I sleep.

Couldn't wait to get home after pickup. Cleaned it. Went to the range and shot it.

I guess it depends how you grew up. I'm waiting on a license for my first firearm, but I've been around them for as long as I can remember. So I assume for me it's going to be business as usual.

Sounds to me like you should get some decent training first before even considering loading it.

I bought a holster before the licence came through. So I holstered it and didnt worry. But I did have to explore my perfect holster position in the ensuing week till I was totally happy.

I showed them my receipt and licence, signed the book, took the box and went home, then yeah. Play time.

Sadly I only got to shoot it two weeks later.

When I collect the AR though, I think the feeling will be much different.
