Saw the article on news24. It's incredibly sad. When Senzo was shot I had a discussion with my students about it. They asked me why he was shot and I said all that was stolen was his cell phone. You know what they asked? What kind of phone was it... As if that makes a difference. I was shocked. They rationalize it depending on the value of the phone. Seems to me as if our lives are worth nothing more than a smartphone.

That is truly sad, its as if people have just accepted that crime is a normal part of our lives and that if you nice possessions someone will take your life for it.

These people are sadists. They don't have to kill for a phone. They do it because they have the opportunity to, and because they enjoy it. It gives them power. It makes them project fear and dominance unto others. They get off on it.
