Default Man on bike attacked on bike and nearly killed

Happened yesterday on the R300 near Cape Town.

Man (think he is in his late 50's or early 60's) on a bike early morning on his way to work.

Three BGs ambush him by throwing and hitting him with a brick while on the bike, he breaks his wrist and arm during the fall.

He is unarmed and doesn't fight back, BG proceed to stab and hack at his face with a panga. His only defense is to use his broken arm to cover his face so he has horrific injuries to his arm and hand (sounds like his hand was almost chopped in half). BGs leave him on the side of the road. Luckily surgeons was able to save his hand and arm during a long emergency surgery. He is a mechanic to need the hand to work.

HvR : What did they steal? Also, bike as in motorbike, or bicycle?

Anyone still thinking Cape Town is a safe place needs to catch a wake-up.

The NW alerts this week have been horrendous - same level of violence, virtually all victim's complied and offered no resistance.

I hope the poor guys makes a full recovery and gets to keep his job.
No doubt he provides for dependants - the knock on effect is often forgotten :-(

He was on a motorbike; the bike, phone and wallet was stolen.

Sounds like he is recovering well and chances that he will be able to use his hand again is looking good.

Dangerous road that. Also the n2 close to there. Its also the part where they used to set cables across the road which decapitated people (so I've been told). I hope he recovers

Same thing happened a few times in Zim when they had fuel shortages and people switched to bicycles and motorcycles. The BG's put a brick in a plastic bag and swing it into the face of the cyclist.
