Default Advise needed reasons for airsoft pistol

    Hi guys,

I'm considering purchasing an airsoft pistol. I'm particularly interested in a glock 19 replica as I've recently purchased a real Glock 19.

The reasons for my buy though is,

    1. For my son (He's 11 yrs old)
    2. For me to safely practice within my property confines.

Do you guys think it is advisable to introduce a 11 year old which is a potentially dangerous weapon?

Huh? Please explain. It is yours and stays yours - your boy just uses it. 11 years old - he needs to be educated about guns. You do it legally and teach him the ropes or someone else might just teach him the wrong stuf in the wrong way.

If you want to introduce your son to guns there is no time like the present though. Start them young and get the safety aspect ingrained into him. Check your local clubs and take him to the range.

    1) - I don't recall any reference to why not
    2) - Is your property in a "built up" area?

.) The sooner anyone learns the proper way to work with a gun the better.

When I take someone to the range I take my G19 airsoft with, and first let the person get use to them, before letting them use the real deal, unfortunately this has sometimes backfired as well, where they prefer the toy to the real deal.

There is no laws against Airsoft. It's a pretty cool sport for a young lad to par take in.

As for you using it to train. Good idea. Till u feel comfy with your skill level use the Airsoft.

Good for force on force training.

Ok please educate me.. Is a built up area not another reference to a residential suburb?

Based on the responses to this thread tho, I am now reconsidering. My son has a keen interest in FA's. I've already introduced him to the indoor range and made him handle my FA in a safe state. He was fairly confident in his grip and stance while dry firing downrange. I think I will buy the airsoft and take him with me on Saturday down to the range to have some fun.

Isn't there something in the FCA about a minimum power to be considered a firearm? The Airsoft guns are below that.

True, but they are classified as airguns:
Older definition: (ii) ‘‘airgun’’ means any device manufactured to discharge a bullet or any other
projectile of a caliber of less than 5.6mm (.22 caliber), by means of
compressed gas and not by means of burning propellant.

    (7) It is an offence to discharge a firearm, an antique firearm or an airgun in a built up
area or any public place, without good reason to do so.
