Second handgun, occasional sports, no current competency
I've just submitted my first new application (SD) and competency.
I'm thinking of applying for a second handgun under section 15: Licence to possess firearm for occasional hunting and sports-shooting.
Sections referenced in my post:
Section 13
Section 15
Section 16
Having read section 15, I notice point 3(c).
If I understand correctly, this means I can only obtain 1 handgun licence under section 15 (besides my SD handgun)? I notice section 16 (dedicated) does not have the same limits.
I'm certainly not thinking of more than 2 handguns for a long while, so section 15 seems more practical than section 16 to me. I won't need to meet and maintain dedicated status.
Further more, I notice that sections 15 & 16 do not *really* require motivation like sections 13 (2a & 2b) do. Obviously, you motivate but it can't possibly be as in depth as a SD app.
You prove you shoot occasionally and belong to a recognised club, and bob's your uncle....section 15 licence issued, no?
I guess I want to confirm if my interpretation of the above sections has been accurate so far?
Okay, so, leaving the sections of the Act behind now.
I've now submitted my competency application and new SD app.
If I decide say next week to apply for a second handgun under section 15, can I apply on it's own NOW, stating that my competency app is currently in the system or must I wait until I get competency?
Thanks guys

Okay, I've confirmed that my understanding of the Section 15 handgun qty limitations are correct.
Anyone have insight into my other questions?

1) I guess I want to confirm if my interpretation of the above
sections has been accurate so far?
A: Correct
(I have succesfully applied for 3 handguns. (1 x sect 13, 1 x sect 15
and 1 x sect 16)
2) If I decide say next week to apply for a second handgun under
section 15, can I apply on it's own NOW, stating that my
competency app is currently in the system or must I wait until I
get competency?
A: You may apply NOW and just state that your competency is in process.

Hey Wismit,
Thanks for the reply and info. Congrats on all your successful licenses.
In your experience, was a lot of motivation required for the section 15 license?

Not really.
I only mentioned that I am a member of our local club. (plus proof thereof).
Then further that I will use the said firearm for target shooting competitions and then very important, why my Sect 13 handgun can not be used for the same purpose. (Accuracy, calibre restrictions etc. etc)

Just remember although they did not require too much motivation from me (maybe I was just lucky), "it is always better to over kill than under kill". (if there is such a saying in ingels)
The more motivation the better !!!!
