    Default Kudu Bull June 2016

Shot this 46 inch kudu bull on Saturday morning in the mountains around the Cradock area of the Eastern Cape.

    Rifle: 6.5X55
    Bullet: 120 grain Barnes TTSX
    Muzzle velocity: 2927 fps
    Distance 159 meters

Bull was shot low on the shoulder standing square on to me, bullet exited other side shoulder.
Exit wound showed more than double diameter expansion.
Bull staggered 5 meters and dropped dead behind the bush you see in the photo.

Farmer said the bull was the biggest ever shot on his farm.

Also shot a big kudu cow with the 6.5x55 on Friday morning.
Shot the cow across a kloof at 244 meters.
Cow was shot low on the shoulder, jumped and took off at Hussain Bolt speed, ran about 25 meters and died while it was running. Collapsed dead as it ran into a big tree.
    Bullet passed through both shoulders.

I'll stop knocking the little 6.5 now, looks like it gets the job done.

    Good hunting

    Thank you.
The 6.5 with the 120 grain TTSX killed everything very dead, including another kudu cow, a few mountain Reedbuck at very long range, and a springbuck.
All the animals barring the kudu cow mentioned above (running on adrenaline) dropped where they where hit.

    Thanks very much.

This is the type of terrain we hunted for three days.
10-14 km's per day walking up and down these mountains.
Popping blisters at night and massaging twisted ankles and damaged knees.

Dragging kudu bulls and cows out of these mountains to the nearest road was back breaking but absolutely rewarding.

    Andrew

We gutted them and bled them (cut the their throats) before we removed them from the mountain.
It took six of us with ropes to drag them off the mountain.
These animals would have been far to heavy to remove from the mountain if we left the guts in.
