Heh-heh! I once went through about three empty mags before I found one with ammo, just 'cause I thought one mag on the belt was fine going into the stage!

And of course, it HAD to happen at the Nationals!

    So we learn...

Point in fact my 2nd IDPA match ever. I figured I would be sitting sweet with 21 rounds as well. I mean a string can never be more than 18 rounds. 1 target left and there I am. No more ammo. I felt like whipping out my blade and throwing it at the last target.

Can you say 0 on with 10 down + FTN. Got to love it. Since then even though (it's HK and it hates you) mags are expensive I make sure I have my maximum 3 (1 in the gun and 2 reloads) mags on me at all times.

Great info here , cant wait to join a club and some shoots when my license is approved.

This type of shooting really appeals to me.

Not really an idpa specific vest, rules just state you must wear a concealment garment...most guys use the photographers vest, it has enough pockets to store spare mags etc. Go to any outdoor lifestyle shop like cape union mart and get one there. K-way makes a very nice one, but there are loads of other good quality ones also available

I found that the Jeep brand has many vests suitable for IDPA, make sure it is a bit longer as usual and also make sure the inside is not of the material that can snag a hammer on the draw attempt, also big side pockets to allow for storing the first mag after a tactical mag change

B3's wife also stitches his together, most suitable and practical for everyday wear.

Talking about mag stuffups. In a club match at FBGC the other day was distracted and suddenly had to go and shoot my string. Ended up with a full mag in my pocket and a mag with 1 round in it on my belt. Went to slide slock to do a reload, popped another magazine in ... Bang.... straight to slide loick again. To add insult ot injury, besides the time it took to fish the full mag out of my pocket, received a PE for not loading my mags to division capacity!!!!! WHAT AN IDIOT

    You live and learn!!!

I hope to be a new shooter soon... Do you guys recommend your EDC mags used for the shoots? I'd guess so, as you're never dropping a mag to the ground. Also, are mag changes REQUIRED or can you complete a stage with a single mag (provided you hit everything). OR - are the stages/courses designed in such a way that you can not complete it without a mag change (for example - you are allowed 15+1 carry, and there are 24 targets)?

Seriously looking forward to shooting IDPA sometime in the new year! Seems you guys have A LOT of fun!
