What is wrong with IPSC as a way to learn speed?

Why additional to SADPA? Surely 3GN is an independent sport?
I hope we're not starting the year on a bad footing...

3GN and DMG are closer philosophically than IPSC 3 gun is to DMG. The IDPA concept of 'not getting shot' in a gunfight leads directly to us becoming cautious to a fault. We need to train speed to gain competitive advantage.

IPSC 3 Gun shooters will also benefit from 3GN.

    Craig, I'll mail you.

    No, of course not.

It was a serious question out of curiosity. Was not stirring at all.

My remark regarding "do just that. Shoot faster." still applies. It is not up to the organization to 'train' speed. I do not believe one can be 'trained' to be faster. The only way a shooter will get faster, is if that shooter goes to the range and pushes himself to go faster, and then faster, and then faster (basically to the point of failure, and then pull it back a bit). It is the individuals responsibility to push his own boundaries (SADPA, SAPSA, or 3GNSA cannot do that for him).

I am a natural 'turtle' ... it has taken months of the above (reads as lots of hard work) to get a bit faster.

The 3GN 'shooter vs shooter' arena is however a great way to motivate the guys to do that work.

    Fair enough.

In IDPA we have a saying: "we learn the rules 3 seconds at a time"... this is the 'price' of a PE (Procedural Error) such as is adjudged for a 'cover' infraction.

We spend so much time making sure we don't get penalised with a cover PE that we tend not to push the envelope. I believe that 3GN in combination with DMG will give the IDPA shooter the advantage of speed, and if he can keep his 'tactical' wits about him by remembering to revert to using cover when he shoots DMG, he should derive benefit.

We saw this in action at the DMG Nationals in November.

One thing I think you miss with the above is that with IDPA and DMG the IDPA target is used with its scoring zones and minus points for inaccurate shots.

3GN is pure speed with either one shot in the centre ring or 2 anywhere on the paper target. This leads to a very fast paced shoot and easy to score by the SO, not having to worry about each individual target score. Penalties are assessed for targets not engaged or missed shots.

It also helps that the Pro Series is televised and available to watch so you can see how fast you can actually shoot a stage.

Watching more video's, I believe 3GN is far closer to IPSC than IDPA.

Looks like a metric shit-ton of fun.
