On New Year's day, I've not been to the desert for many months. And for me that is a real problem.
To retain my sanity, I need to be there from time to time! Now was the time...!
So on Thursday 31st a mate and I decided we are going to take the weekend off for a quick dash into the Namib!
We left Windhoek behind-wet and cool. It was raining all the way to Wilhelmstal where we hit the first gravel.
Lunch on the Khan river bridge koue braaivleis from the evening before...life is good!
Refueling in Omaruru - bikes are getting houding after the first wet gravel stretch
Behind Sptizkoppe on our way to Uis - Okombahe kop on the horizon
Time for a quick rockshandie! What are the chances of running into another mate of mine on his way home to Benoni
after a stint into Kaokoland!
Long shadows just before Brandberg Wes and our nite-stop
Settling down for the nite with Brandberg in the background
Lite evening meal
On our way south the next morning
The incredible early morning hues of the Namib north of Henties
Rapmund, my favourite home away from home when in Swakopmund
Stats:
Rico rides a new 1200GS (Electronics galore!) while my 1200GS Adventure is a 2007 model with manual suspension settings.
We both returned about 5.5l/100km on fuel consumption but my bike has about 10l more fuel capacity.
We did 500kms on the first day of which 140 was blacktop, the rest was gravel wet and dry.
Saturday's ride down to Swakop was about 220kms on the salt and Sunday 365kms back to Windhoek on tar.

Awesome!
Makes me wanna pack my truck and go..
Every year my wife & I do a "going nowhere slowly" trip. No destination, only rule is we sleep where the sun goes down..

Awesome. The scenery looks outstanding.
