CABINET BACKS PLANS TO CHANGE GUN CONTROL LEGISLATION: EWN
http://ewn.co.za/2015/02/19/Cabinet-...ol-legislation
Minister Jeff Radebe says the proposed changes are part of government's approach to fighting crime.
CAPE TOWN – Cabinet has approved proposed changes to gun control legislation which will be released for public comment.
During a post-cabinet briefing today, Minister in the Presidency Jeff Radebe said the Firearms Control Amendment Bill seeks to tighten gun control laws.
He said it was part of government's approach to fighting crime.
“The minister of Police will be making a special briefing, so all the details of the firearms will be there but the main objective is to ensure that we reduce the ownership of arms in South Africa.”
In October last year, the African National Congress (ANC) called for a review of gun control laws, saying the increasing number of illegal guns was fuelling crime.

Re: CABINET BACKS PLANS TO CHANGE GUN CONTROL LEGISLATION: EWN
The part highlighted in red is the crux of the matter.
And I 'll say it again as I did in the other thread. It doesn't matter what sport you do or what you hunt or how you motivate that new firearm. They do not want us to have any, that is the bottom line.
Wouldn't be surprised if they just bulldoze the amendments through, doesn't matter what the public say, its the ANC way.

Re: CABINET BACKS PLANS TO CHANGE GUN CONTROL LEGISLATION: EWN
But is this really new? Aren't these the amendments we have been waiting to be published for some time? And the ones that the Firearm Organizations already summarized for us in that presentation a few months back?
Like the 5 year club membership requirement for semi-auto rifles, the idea that clubs will be able to endorse your applications for you, and the proposal to do ballistic fingerprinting for all guns when renewing your license.
Isn't it just this stuff that is now finally making it into the mainstream media?
If not, it seems kind of ridiculous that they went to all the trouble of formulating the above amendment proposals, only to have a go at it again 2 months later.
So what's the truth of the matter?

Re: CABINET BACKS PLANS TO CHANGE GUN CONTROL LEGISLATION: EWN
The stuff we saw at the end of last year was a rough draft of proposed amendments.
We all made submissions.
It appears as if the Cabinet has now given permission to publicise whatever remains of the rough draft after our inputs.
When this proposed amendment is gazetted we will have an opportunity to comment.
We suspect this is all part of a strategy which includes the Firearms Summit at the end of next month.
We... a bunch of organisations and associations are now invited to the previously secret summit.
We're as ready for this as we can be... wish us luck."Always remember to pillage before you burn"
