    Default Practical Bolt Rifle Shooting

    Hi guys

I have been thinking about this for a while. What sports in SA do we have for more practical type shooting with a bolt action rifle? Not just shooting of a bench, but moving to different positions and needing to make hits against time.

Say 5-10 round stages and need to get hits on plates at distances up to 300m from various shooting positions.

Sounds like fun or am I alone here?

I think it is the SA Veldskiet. Sub division of CHASA. They have events all over.

Ranges differ from 70m up to 350m with different size gongs that has to be shot.

AFAIK SAHGCA has shooting exercises that cover most of this.

there are the various veld/gong shoots....etc

and then there's the "manual rifle shoots" run by the Midlands PSC (KZN).

    various stages eg.
    - 5 shot grouping @ 200m.
    - prone @ 250m, run to 150m kneeling shots, run to 100m standing shots.
    - 5 gongs/clays @ 100m/200m (speed shoot).
    - gongs out to 600m.
    - IPSC type short courses.

using IPSC manual rifle rules so everything is timed.
we get to do this 3 times a year.....good fun!!!
