Swartklip Blitzers
Good evening chaps. Growing up in the northern cape, I fired my fare share with my dads BRNO mod2-e and sometimes my dad would buy Swartklip Blitzers. All I remember from them is that they made a strange sound during the flight period. Due to the silencer fitted to the rifle I did not like them, obviously because the silencer is too awesome and I would always try to be as quiet as possible. I am now taking over the rifle and in the process of licensing the rifle but I came across a bag of 100-130 of these blitzers. I searched a bit but I cannot really find any more info on them (probably due to the fact I was made locally). Does anyone know what the purpose was for them/if they were used for anything specific. Or are they just a straight forward hollow point? I'm not sure if there were Andy different variations but the ones in question have a nickel plated case and a JHP bullet.

SAS.
The Blitzer was a local counterpart to the CCI Stinger. Not exactly equal, but aimed at a similar performance, i.e. a "hyper velocity" rimfire load with more "punch" on the traget.
The basic concept consists of a plated lead bullet, of lighter than standard weight (and shorter lenght), seated in a longer than standard case, with more powder. This was intended to deliver more speed and dramatic expansion in the target. This held true at shorter ranges, but slightly reduced accuracy and loss of velocity often diminished effectiveness at longer ranges. The cases were nickel plated primarily for identification purposes.
22 rifles usually have minds of their own, and are quite choosy about ammo. So some rifles were more accurate with Blitzers than anything else.
Due to the higher recoil inertia, Blitzers were not recommended for blow-back operated pistols. Yet many people who carried 22's for SD swore by them.
I do not know if the powder used in the Blitzer differed from the Somchem B 022 used in all the other 22 rimfires. Probably not.

Re: Swartklip Blitzers
As I only have two boxes of them left, I do not want to shoot with them. But they were great in my CZ452. At up to 50 meters they had all the accuracy and power that you could expect from a .22 for pest control.

Re: Swartklip Blitzers
The cases are made slightly longer and bullets slightly lighter to allow for more powder. Swartklip used copper plated soft lead 36gr bullet. The fired at 1440 fps out of a rifle barrel. Accuracy was always very good with varmint type expansion. In my mauser they were the only swartklip .22 bullets that never gave a misfire.
For comparison CCI stingers were 32 gr bullets at 1600 fps.
I have a few of each type left. I may be going to the range tomorrow morning . I will see if I can chrono them. Will post results.

Re: Swartklip Blitzers
Blitzers is the term I use for any high velocity .22 bullet. Typically better suited for varmint.. (or is that vermin?)
