Advice on handgun scope or red dot

Hi

I would like to fit a scope or red dot sight on my Taurus mod 66 6" revolver.
I am leaning towards a red dot scope but would like some advice.

I am working on a budget of up to R3000 which puts scopes like the aimpoint H1 off my list. I have seen the lynx 38m RDC 1 for about R2500.

Has anyone got advice on what would be best and where I can find stock.

Maybe I should wait until Huntex and see what is available.

I am currently using an RDC-1 on my 9mm Tanfoglio for IPSC. It is working perfectly. No shift in zero and the dot is small but bright making it quick and easy to get on target as well as ideal for longer shooting on small plates.

I don't have the rail yet. I have found 1 on the Brownwells site for $29. Unless anyone knows of a local supplier?

Initially range work and SA Hunter handgun exercises. When I am feel ready I would like to use it for hunting.

Sean, is it mounted directly to the slide or is it a frame mount?

I had a TRS-25 on my 6" GP100 .357 Mag. Fantastic little thing. The 3OA dot is very fine, and sight aquisition is super fast. Makes for much better shooting than the open sights. Took an Impala at about 40 paces with this setup. I now have a Tasco 2x22 handgun scope on it, but have not shot it yet. Initial thoughts are not so positive. The eye relief thing is difficult to get right, sight picture is slow to aquire. The unlimited eye relief of the red dot beats this hands down. The scopee is also very large and bulky compared to the dot. Will have to improvise a holster or sling if I'm going to carry it in the field. The dot also looked much better on the gun.
