This is going to be interesting! Lets hope the decision is made without any "outside" interference.

A litigant who is dissatisfied with a court's judgment can apply to that court, meaning that same judge, for leave to appeal. The judge has to consider whether another court presented with the same facts, and this goes out to you Fanie, MAY have come to a different conclusion.

Is the firearms that are confiscated by the police ie from firearm dealer safes also considered as 'surrendered' firearms ?

I still insist this 'legal' firearm saga in SA is the biggest joke in Africa... probably the world. People waiting years and years for firearms... my friend waited 4 years. My own firearm license is sitting in the lyttleton police station for two months already. Newest trick to delay, accuse admin who hasn't 'registered' the payment I made at the police station. Probably someone who cannot read...

Point is, if all the laws get broken as listed in the 'Right to Life' document I posted a while back, why would this court 'enforce' any 'laws'.

Our local station did not mark applications as 'paid' on purpose to win time to process older ones. A local lawyer gave them a few words and they quickly changed their tune.

In my case I called 012 353 6111 and spoke to a very friendly (kind of a shock but refreshing) girl called Trompie who told me admin hasn't 'registered' the payment I made two months ago. Don't know how one will get any evidence from them.

Ja, you see... apocryphal reports and hearsay are not helpful to our cause. We need something we can wave in the air.

I just called them again. Aparently one can get a 'status' report on your firearm license from the police station. If I get time today I'll go by and get one - if it is possible !

Nope, as suspected. My own application is so confidential even I cannot get to know anything about it, and they DEFENATELY do not make any printouts. The commander did take my name and number and promissed to call me next week after they (again) 'investigate' my application.

I was under the impression the firearm FCA 'law' was to get rid of and prevent unlicensed firearms. Instead they seem to have made it impossible to own any licensed firearm but not an unlicensed one. For the expense of a lousy 9mm pistol, I could have bought three AK47's and at least give the police hell with them if they terrorise me. Oh well, chances are good I'll get killed by a robber one of these days in any case, so what difference would it make. I know this is not the type of thing to post on a forum, but at some stage one has to let go of the papers too and face what is going on in reality :-(

As for the legal issues, only the public is expected to abide the laws. The police, government and every one else is not accountable and doesn't have to worry about the laws. Instead, the authorities seem to find more and more ways to slow applications down.

Julius Malema for next president ! At least then there won't be ANY laws.

I think the court is doing its job. I damn good job too. Because if you could do the opposite of what is suppose to be right and fair and still get credit for that, then obviously your are doing what is expected from you.

I feel a great sense of arrogance from these natives.

How are we to still have respect for our neighbor if we cannot even protect ourselves?

Is this what life is, or am I too sensitive about the situation?

    Perhaps we should stop feeling.

This may be true, but that is not where the problem is. The legal system is devided into different sections functioning indepemdant from each other. The executive court is where the problem lies as this is the police and they do as they plaese - including decide ie how long before and if a person may or may not get a firearm license.

It may not sound logical but one has to find a way around the executive court and I may have something. I am going to present it to someone and if it works then the executive court is bypassed as they are not doing their work. If what I am attempting to achieve works out then the firearm licensing saga may change for the good.

I have a question - the case where Justice Pretorius put the act 60 on ice... how come they are ignoring his order and just continue this cripple law ? I think this judge sits around wondering why no one does something with his order !
