    Default Rifle for home SD

    Hi guys

I need a bit of advice, I currently own a hunting rifle but no handgun. What is your opinion on sleeping with my rifle loaded next to my bed? Would this be a bad idea? I realise that a rifle is obviously not the best choice for close quarters defence etc but what if its all you have available?

    I would appreciate any comments!

    Thanks

I would start the process of acquiring a handgun for SD ASAP.

Non-SD weapons are supposed to be in a safe unloaded when not in use.

Acquire a handgun ASAP. Hunting rifles are not optimal for home and/or self defence.

You're taking it out of perspective.
Section 86, (11) (a) Firearms other than those in respect of which a licence for self-defence in terms of section 13 of the Act has been issued, must be stored unloaded in accordance with these regulations.
I do agree though, a handgun is a much better home defence firearm than a rifle. A shotgun has its place, but a handgun is more versatile.

A hunting rifle in the hand is worth 2 handguns at the gunshop waiting for CFR to approve :)
