I have a M4 with a IR designator and a pair of NVGs. There is no fair fight at my house.

Lucky you, I once had my revolver and shotgun in another location and had to depend on my 375 H&H WITH A 4*32 scope, and bearclaws. No close neighbours as we were on a far. Not ideal but would have been interesting if Buffalo had meandered into the garden
probably would have woken up the nearest neighbours who were about 500m away ... and frightened the drawers off any BGs

I would rather keep a machete next to the bed than a loaded manual action rifle (Totally different story if it were a "sporting rifle"). You don't need to reload a machete and you can sever tendons with a properly weighted one. The distance at which self-defense inside a home takes place, a gun isn't that big an advantage over a long blade. It is an advantage for sure, but not nearly as big as some people might think.

    Are you sure about that?

So you are going to hack at the criminal standing outside your security gate or closed door firing at you through the gate or door with his firearm?

You are going to defend yourself with your machete against multiple attackers with knives and axes and/or guns?
