    They are Scimitar-Horned Oryx.

Officially marked as "Extinct in the Wild"

Now Extinct in the Wild, the Scimitar-Horned Oryx once lived in the northern African countries of Egypt, Senegal, and Chad. They have now been reintroduced in Tunisia, Morocco and Senegal we believe through protected conservation parks.

Yup, Speed Freak is right. They used to have a few at the Rietvlei Zoo Farm near Alberton a couple of years ago. The animals belong to the JHB zoo. I think they were moved back there.

AH, yes. Just across the road from GCDPC. I wonder if any club members can tell us what they taste like

Had some in my sights on a farm in the Richmond area. Just looking, because back then (mid 80's) they were going for 25K!! They were actually on the neighbors farm and I was looking through the fence, this guy specialised in exotics, including Indian Black Buck, kinda like a cross between a springbok(size) blesbok(colour) and Kudu (horns)
I think they(Schimitar Horned Oryx) are also known as Abissynian Oryx(?)
