Just out of interest I modified a Russian made AK lower front handguard to fit on a type 56 for Tactical Tim the other day, and there was a big difference in the size of the slot in the receiver. Got the exact dimensions written somewhere, but it was a couple of mm off all round, and 1.5mm shorter.

The problem with ak's is that there Is a ton of variables between manufacturers and even within the same brands haha. The type 56 is a bit shorter, its built of sinosoviet machinery, (donated by Russia to china) where china made a few adjustments, the type 56 is a ak47/akm combination, bit of both In it with regards to gas block porting positions etc.
my MAGPUL MOE AK solid stock fits, granted the rear tang screw doesn't line up, so its pretty firm with the wedge they supply and forward most screw in place (200 rounds only so far with new stock)

I think with any ak, prepare yourself for a bit of DIY finishing and "smithing", god knows a bit of sanding saved my hands and smoothed the action due to contact points
