The Lyman plains Pistol is an excellent black powder pistol. Very reliable and extremely accurate.

If you have little experience with black powder firearms, then I would never recommend the flintlock version for a beginner. The .50cal version works very well with both the .490" roundball as well as the 370grain Lyman MAXI conical.
You may want to post a wanted add on either the Snaphaan or Whitesmoke black powder forums.

I must agree completely with mic. It is a fine pistol. I have seen them being used in competition, completely stock and unmodified. It must be said that it can't quite match the custom pistols used by some of the best shooters at the main Rendezvous gatherings in America, but there aren't any other current, factory made traditional muzzleloader pistols that shoot better. The Thompson Center Patriot pistol would be just as good, if not a bit better, but they are no longer being made.
Because I am from America, I can't tell you where to purchase one in SA.
