Is Loadshedding an additional reason to justify a self defense handgun?

IMHO it most definitely is - not everyone is able to install or can afford a generator. How else are you meant to defend your home, property and family in the dark (the well publicized dark) without working alarms, cell phone base stations etc
etc?

I cannot agree more - however it is always useful to have additional info that can be used in motivations. Attaching a loadshedding schedule and description of premises should be a SHALL ISSUE situation.

Yes it most certainly is. Criminal activity thrives in darkness. Sure, daylight too, but in total darkness, there's no light to give them away. Just justify it in whole and back it up with statistics.
