Almost another lost firearm from SAPS
http://www.netwerk24.com/nuus/2015-0...geweer-by-baba
Sorry for the Afrikaans article.
Summary of the story, couple phoned SAPS after a robbery, they pitch up to take statements and the one member forgets his loaded R5 rifle at the home and the couple's baby gets hold of it and plays with it.
This is really just shocking!

Re: Almost another lost firearm from SAPS
Yes this is quite shocking but I almost fell of my chair earlier when I saw photos of operation Fiela (Manenberg) where the SANDF soldiers had some kind of rope attached to their rifles not sure if this is standard procedures but it looked quite funny.
Will try post a picture.

Re: Almost another lost firearm from SAPS
Last year at African Aerospace and Defence there were SANDF soldiers deployed to stop members of the public from walking onto the runway. I noticed that they all had a red string/cable fastened to their firearms and onto themselves. Maybe this is SOP to prevent them from losing it.

Weapon Cable is compulsory and all SANDF weapons must be fixed to the webbelt to ensure weapons are not taken from them in a struggle.

Re: Almost another lost firearm from SAPS
There is no key to the weapon Cable as it works on a loop and or clip system. As long as it is secured to my belt and weapon, I must be stolen with the weapon. Just take note that issue of weapons and the control there over has intensified during the last few years. The amount of paper work and control mechanism implimented ensures that a lost weapon can be identified as soon as possible.
