Default Small fixed blade with sheath for left-side appendix carry

The more I learn about working in confined spaces, the more I like the idea of a small easy-to-access fixed blade.

As the title suggests - I'm looking for a small and easy to conceal fixed blade, with a sheath, to try carrying on my belt, preferably IWB on the left side, appendix position.

    Any suggestions?

For the record: I know next to nothing about knives.... except perhaps that I really don't want to find myself on the wrong end of the pointy bit. So it is safe to assume no prior knowledge.

What kind of work do you have in mind? Fighting/slashing or general purpose cutting? It makes a difference in the blade shape.

CRKT Bear Claw comes to mind, there are better choices but it is a very good start.

Ds J I see you are also a nagwolf.

I keep a folder in my right hand pocket that I use for general cutting and everyday tasks.

The fixed blade will be for those very close "entanglements" that it is so easy to get into while fighting, where you are just holding on for dear life and trying not to go to the ground, or after having gone to the ground. I cant imagine getting my folder out and open when that happens, nevermind drawing and using a pistol. But a small fixed blade that is easy to access might just work.

Again - I know very little about knife work so please feel free to educate me.

That CRKT looks about right. A friend also suggested a push dagger?

On being a nagwolf is debatable but I have a two year old who's trying his hand at "wil nie nou slaap nie..." etc. And since he has just fallen asleep I'll write more after sunrise

But please have a look at the KaBar TDi?

+1 for the K-Bar TDI - the mini is especially nice for appendix-carry.

Got this off Echo.Delta.Charlie knives and tools.

Could be what you are looking for?

Don't buy too fast. Check out the different possibilities and go through each of them in the shop and at home in your mind to see what fits you the best. And go for knife training; the best design is one which can slash, stab and cut. Check all the known knife brands for designs. One golden rule with knives is that knife designs have developed over a long time and only the proven designs survived; stay with them.

I am trying out a Cold Steel Best Pal push blade, though will probably also look at the CRKT Obake as an option

I'm just going to echo what others have said already and give a +1 to the CRKT bearclaw (EDC'd one for years myself) and the kabar TDI.

The slimpik Mr_Medic shared is also a great choice, as is the Echo.Delta.Charlie TDI inspired blade named the Retainer (Xavier made a few changes based on his preferences)

Fair Disclosure- Mr Xavier Knox is an old friend and training partner of mine. He has trained with Kelly McCann and currently trains with the MDW guys and Mark Human in CT, so his designs have a good practical base and not just what a custom maker thinks looks cool.
