What is a good average hit factor for IPSC ?
How does the classification work as some guys are A , B or C classed .

The scores at our club differ; one guy shoots 97% on a very bad day and I have seen guys shooting below 30% overall. Most scores are between 40% and 80%; I do not shoot nearly as much as I like and am very glad when I can keep it above 65%.

Its a tough answer, because you will find stages with the same amount of targets where more movement is required and this will naturally bring down the hit factor. I don't think this has an answer to be honest.

A rough guide I would say. 6 hit factor on longer/harder stages. But on the short open stages it can go up to 10. If you shoot lower than 6 on any stage you are probably falling behind the leaders.

Your class in determined from your score % compared to the top shooter's 100% for the match at level II matches and up mostly. I am not sure about which % level is which class exactly. I think class A is 80% and up from the winners score and the like. There are fixed classification standards stages, but they are not really used that much in SA from what I have seen. You must also not confuse the classification system with that used in USPSA which is as far as I know only rated on their standards stages.

Well, my first IPSC shoot I achieved a Hit factor of 2.3 on average with a 31% score. The top shooter for that day did 6.5 Hit factor with a 100% score. I have alot of ground to make up

Average hit ratio is only a meaningful metric if your stages are standardised, but they are not hence comparing sores between events is pointless. It is only an important metric for the purpose of evaluating competitors against one another in the context of a single stage. Top shooter for the day always gets 100% whether he did it with 6.0 or 1.0.

Rather compare % of the top shooters with your score. Then you will see who is on your level and who is just above you to beat.

Classification works on your standings on the log in question.

Eg: You could be a classified A on the regional log, but a C on National. Depends on your average (Regional takes the best 4 of 6 scores, while National log takes best 2 of 3 scores).

A is average of 85% or higher as per the log.

Thanks guys i was taught a lesson in what you are saying this Saturday
Managed a second place in one stage against some top shooters with a hit factor of 7.89 so rather check your % that wiil be a better way of checking progress
