Are S&B primers harder?
I wanted to test the second strike capability of my pistol. Just to see if it could work in a emergency situation. I realised that the firing pin does not strike the primer with the same force in DA mode as versus to SA mode.
All my ammo, including factory reloads went bang with the first trigger pull, Only my S&B ammo required more than one pull off the trigger. Does this mean that S&B factory ammo have harder primers than most others?
They have no problems going off when shooting in normal SA mode so there are no issues. Just want to hear from others.

Re: Are S&B primers harder?
The S&B primers are pretty hard, I would say on a par with Winchester.
The hardest primers I have found are the Russia Murom primers and the PMP are also up there.
A lot of factory ammo (high end types) use Federal or CCI, both of which are very soft

Re: Are S&B primers harder?
My experience as follows, based on use in a revolver very prone to light strikes.
Form soft to hard:
Federal
Winchester
S&B
CCI, PMP
Muron

Re: Are S&B primers harder?
I also get light strikes on S&B factory ammo in my J-frame. Sometimes they only ignite on the third try.
Having reloaded about 3k SPP and LPP, S&B primers, I have yet to experience one failure in my pistols. Aside from a primer that wasn't seated properly, but this has nothing to do with the OP's question.

Re: Are S&B primers harder?
I am still 'new' to the sport, but I haven't had a single light strike or problem with S&B primers in over 1300 rounds. - But I have heard that a Glocks are apparently less affected by harder primers

Re: Are S&B primers harder?
Out of about 1000 or so S&B primers I've loaded, I've had three or four soft strikes. They worked on the second shot though, so it's never been a dead primer. Just a hard one.
This with my P07, for the record.

Re: Are S&B primers harder?
my DPMS G2 punches perfect little holes straight through S&B LR primers.
Winchester and CCI runs like a boss.
for pistol, zero problems with S&B.

Re: Are S&B primers harder?
I've gone through about 400 SB small pistol primers so far, havent had an issue with them yet.
I have some LR primers which my .303 did not like at all, misses the anvil, then you need to rotate the round, then on the second hit, it smacks a hole into the primer.
